Words from the course instructor, Curtis Zoerb

After 20 years of ministry I know that one of the ongoing struggles of ministry is to recruit and retain leaders and volunteers.  While there is no perfect ‘one size fits all’ approach that works in every church, there are some key areas that you can work on to have the greatest impact.  In this course, you will first learn the theory of volunteer development.  That is, what will excite people in your church to work towards your kingdom goals (whatever God is leading you towards).  In addition to gaining an understanding of the theory you will hear from real life examples of how this has worked, and hasn't worked, in the small, Co-Vocational church. Thoughtfully working through this course will put you on the track towards developing your churches ‘why’, which will answer your volunteers ‘why’, why should they give of their time for your church.  My prayer is that these steps when taken and applied to your unique setting will help to empower leaders in your church to step up and continue to serve, knowing that they will be making a difference in the Kingdom work you are inviting them into.

Course Instructor

Instructor Curtis Zoerb

Curtis Zoerb has served in pastoral ministry since 2005. He currently serves as lead pastor of Massey Place Community Church in Saskatoon. His passions are for developing next generation leaders and lay leaders, co-vocational dynamics for pastors & boards, ministry leadership through conflict and vision development, and equipping people for various Christian ministries (like preaching, visitation and administration). His doctoral research focused on the question of whether lay leaders should preach in their local churches (the answer is yes!) and how to equip them. The result of this research has turned into a huge blessing at his church. Curtis has been married to his wife Jamie for 28 years. Together they have 3 boys and recently welcomed their first daughter-in-law to the family!
